Announcements September 29, 2014

·        Exercise your gray cells! The chess club meets tomorrow after school in room 132. 

·        There will be a meeting for all Youth Troop members tomorrow after school in room 221.

·        Reminder there will be a DECA meeting Tuesday after school in room 209.  Please be scent free!  Thanks

·        Attention Dancers:  There is a audition for the dance team on Tues. sept 30 for grade 9'students and On Wed. Oct 1 for all gr 10,11 and 12.  Auditions will be held in the auditorium at 2:30.  Be prepared to dance. Any questions or concerns see Mrs Harris.

·        All students travelling to Europe this March are reminded that their forms and deposits are due by Tuesday Sept 30.  There are still some spaces availabe for any students interested in the trip.  Please see Mrs. Voegeli - Room 204 or Ms Bastein Rm 111 for more information.

·        The Guidance Department is now accepting Community Service Hours. Please note you must first submit your Community Service Sheets only after you have reached a total of 40 hours or more. We will not be entering anything less than 40 hours in the system.

·        Attention all students.  Picture retakes will take place on Wednesday, October 1st in our Learning Commons Centre.  In order for you to have your picture taken, you must fall into one of these categories:
Be a new student to the school since pictures were last taken or you were absent on photo day.
Any student not pleased with their photo package.  If you were unhappy with your pictures you must return your photo package to the photographer.
Any student who wishes to purchase a photo package. 
If you've lost your student card, you can see the photographer for a replacement.  The fee is $5.00

·        Bring It On. There will be a quick information meeting for This year' s musical Bring It On on Wednesday at the beginning of both lunches.  All are welcome.

·        New York, New York! Ms. Grado, Mrs. Harris and Mr. Janisse's New York trip is ready to go. All senior Drama, dance and English students are welcome. There will be an information meeting at the beginning of both lunches in the auditorium Tuesday.

·        There will be a meeting for both the creative writing group and the newspaper group tomorrow, Tuesday September 30th, in rm 214 from 2:30-4:00.  All members of both groups are urged to attend.  Any students interested in either group are also encouraged to attend.  What can be more fun than Tuesdays with Hammy?

All students who signed up to be Best Buddies please report to Room 115 at this time to receive your appointment slip for your interview time on Monday.

 

Due to the PD Day tomorrow the Anime Club will meet today on 2nd lunch in the computer lab off of the LCC

 

Hey Villanova, Have you ever wanted to learn a new language? Have you ever wondered what exactly the Sign Language Interpreter is saying at mass? Now is your chance.  If you are interested in joining the Sign Language Club, please sign up at room 202.

 

Yesterday the Villanova Golf team competed in WESSAA at Kingsville Golf and Country Club.  Madeline Byrne shot 43and came in 3rdplace.  Nina Korac finished 4th, one stroke behind with a score of 44, and with the help of Sophia Fallea the girls made it to a nail bitting second place team finish 2 strokes behind the winning team Sandwich.  The boys team competed in an 18 hole round coming out on top with a combined score of 321.  All 4 boys Graham Byrne, Thomas DeMarco, Jon Grebe, and Jarrod smith fared well in the individual standings.  The entire team qualified for SWOSSAA! Good job Wildcats!!!! P.S. Mr. Pascot will be bringing his stapler!!!

 

All students travelling to Europe this March are reminded that their forms and deposits are due by Tuesday Sept 30.  There are still some spaces available for any students interested in the trip.  Please see Mrs. Voegeli - Room 204 or Ms Bastein in Room 111 for more information.

Just a reminder to all potential Costa Rica travelers this year.  All forms and deposits are due ASAP if you are considering Costa Rica this year.  Again all forms and deposit must be in ASAP if you would like to be considered for Costa Rica 2015 in May!

 

Hey Villanova, Have you ever wanted to learn a new language? Now is your chance.  If you are interested in joining the Sign Language Club, please sign up at room 202.  

 

Any grade 10 student wishing to join the Junior science club meet in room 227 at the beginning of your lunch.  Bring your lunch.  Live long and prosper.

 

Tomorrow is the last day to buy your lottery ticket for the gaming chair.  See Mr. Scott in room 227.  Tickets are one dollar.

 

Last night the Sr. Girls basketball played their first game of the season against Kingsville in Kingsville. It was a back and forth game with the largest lead being 4 points through three quarters. Kingsville pushed the lead to 13, but the Wildacts rallied back behind the 12 points of Rylee welsh and the 4 point play by Paige Carnahan. Unfortunately, the Wildcat rally came up short as they lost 42-34. Great first game ladies practice at 4: 00pm tonight.

 

Congratulations to the Villanova cross team on a great result at the Raider Open yesterday at Mic Mac Park. Top finishers in each division were Chloe Gignac, Connor Sloan, Samantha Boussey, JakeAlkouri, Shawn Acrey, and Taylor Conte who won the senior girls race. Good job to everyone who competed.

 

Students who were not able to attend the Europe meeting last night need to see Ms. Voegeli for important information regarding the trip.

A reminder to all Student Parliament members, our meeting this week is on Wednesday right after school in the LCC.

 

Just a reminder that Ms. Marentette's period 3 class is to take FIRSTLUNCH today and then meet in the chapel for 11:43.

A reminder to the Creative Writing Group that there is not a meetingtonight, but they can submit what they are working on to Mr. Hamelin in rm 214 by Thursday period 4.

Your Villanova golf teams will be competing at Kingsville Golf and Country club on Wednesday Sept 24, 20014. Mr Pascot would like to see the following golfers Thomas Demarco, Graham Byrne, JarrodSmith, Jon Grebe, Madelyn Byrne, Nina Korak and Stephanie Felleain rm 108 immediately for a very short meeting.  

 

Math homework help is available in the math wing today after school.  All levels and grades are welcome to drop in.

 

Any grade 10 student wishing to join the Junior science club, come to room 227 at the beginning of your lunch on Wednesday.  We will start choosing our projects.  Science Rules.

Sr Boys' Volleyball Take the Trophy!

For the first time in Villanova history, the Sr. Boys' Volleyball team took home the trophy from the Amherst Invitational, soundly defeating the Holy Names Knights 3 games to nil over the weekend.

Today is the last day that SPC cards will be sold at lunchtime.  Buy them for $9 at the beginning of lunch in front of the cafeteria today!

 

All Best Buddies forms are due back by Monday morning to Sarah Young, Renata Ceccaci or Mrs. Ducharme.

 

The Animé club will meet during second lunch today in the computer lab attached to the LCC.

The Junior science club will begin with grade 9's at lunch in room 227.  Future science and engineering students are encouraged to attend.

 

Mr. Scott is raffling off a gaming chair to fund his science club.  Tickets are $1 and are sold in room 227.  You an also listen to music as it has built in speakers.  Come take a look in room 227.  You can't win without a Ticket.

 

Want to commend the Senior football team on a great effort yesterday. It was an exciing game Jacob Savoni scored 6 TDs. The game ended in a tie 41 to 41.  

 

Last night, the Senior Boys Volleyball Team opened their season with an impressive 3-0 win over the Amherst Generals by a score of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-23. The boys were a little shaky on the defensive side but dominated offensively with some excellent setting by MattPebenito and some strong hitting by Dante Civiero with 9 kills, DanteTimperio with 5 kills and Keven Hillman with 5 kills. Best of luck today as the boys play in the early bird General Amherst tournament.

 

Just a reminder to the junior boys volleyball team that practices next week are on Monday from 6:30am-8:00am and Wednesday from 2:30pm-4:00pm. Games are Tuesday at 5pm and Thursday at 4pm. Both games next week are at our gym.

 

Any student who wishes to compete in the WECSSAA tennis tournament please see Ms McMahon in the phys ed office.

 

Those students wishing to volunteer for the run for heroes marathon please bring your completed forms to the office immediately if you haven't done so already. Be sure you have signed the sign up sheet in the office as well.

Announcements September 18, 2014

 

This announcement is from Guidance.  A reminder to all Period 1 Gr. 11 teachers and Period 2 Gr. 12 teachers that the Guidance sessions for Gr. 11 and Gr. 12 will begin on Monday, Sept. 22/14. A schedule for each of the grades has been posted in the Villanova folder so please check this schedule for the date for your period 1 or Period 2 class.

 

Grade nine and ten students are invited to join the Junior science club.  See Mr. Scott in room 227 or come to the meeting in room 227.  Grade 9 at lunch on Monday and grade 10 at lunch on Wednesday.  Come enjoy Science.

 

Our next meeting will take place next Tuesday, September 23th, at 8:00 a.m. in room 103. Also, a quick reminder that your second installment cheques are due 2 days later, Thursday September 26th.  Merci

Just a reminder on both lunches there is a Campus Crew meeting today in Campus Ministry. Everyone encouraged and welcome. Please bring your lunches and come to Campus Ministry room 102.  There are many community service opportunities and there is a community service bulletin board across from Campus Ministry, or if you have any questions about any of them please see Mrs.Verardi in Campus Ministry.

Announcements September 17, 2014

·        We will be starting an Animé Club on Fridays during second lunch. This group will meet in the computer lab near the library. They will participate in Animé trivia, watching Anime and art contests. If you are interested in joining there will be a very brief information meeting right after morning announcements tomorrow.

·        Due to the positive response, Student Price Cards will be on sale again tomorrow and Friday at the beginning of lunches in front of the cafeteria.  If you want to get discounts at over 100 stores, don't forget your $9 tomorrow or Friday! 

·        To all those students who took applications to be peer buddies in our Best Buddies program please be sure to return them to Sarah Young, Renata Ceccaci or Mrs. Ducharme by the end of this week in order to be considered for the program.

·        Mr. Pascot and Mr. Brunone would like to thank all those students who tried out for the golf team. Some very good rounds, some personal bests and good times had. A remainder that WECSSA will be held on Wednesday the 24th of September at Kingsville Golf and Country Club. Great job by all.

Announcements September 15, 2014

·        Canadian Blood Services invites our school to be part of the "Young Blood for Life" Program.  The program is intended to give students the opportunity to learn more about the blood system in Canada, recruitment strategies and how to organize school clinincs.  Anyone interested in joining the program or who has helped with our blood drives in the past, please see Ms.  Russo in the science prep room during homeroom today.

·        Cross-country practices continue this week after school. New runners are still welcome. A special call goes out to grade 9 and 10 boys and girls. Please meet in the atrium at 2:30.

·        "Get ready to rumble!" Chess club will meet tomorrow after school in room 132. Everyone, whatever level, welcome"

·        This past Saturday, the Senior Boys Volleyball Team competed in the Ursuline College early bird volleyball tournament. The boys played exceptionally well in their 5 round robin matches finishing with an 8 and 2 record. The boys advanced to the semi finals and easily defeated the Holy Names Knights 25-18, 25-19. The boys advanced to the finals against a very tough Forest Heights team from Kitchener. Despite playing their hearts out, fatigue was kicking in and the boys lost 25-17, 25-22. Despite the loss, the boys started their season on a very high note. Best of luck this week in the season opener on Thursday.


·        The junior science club, open to grade 9's and 10's begins next week.  See Mr. Scott in room 227 for information.  It will be at lunch.

The Chess Club will meet on Tuesday after school from 2:30 till 4.  Beginner or master, everyone welcome.

The Youth Troop will have their first meeting immediately after school in the LCC tonight. New members are welcomed and encouraged. Hope to see you all there.

Just a reminder that tryouts for the junior boys volleyball team will begin this Monday from 4:00pm-5:30pm in the gym.

It is that time of the year again. The bearded dragon needs to come home , the summer vacation is over. At the same time all that are interested in joining the living Lab are welcome to join us Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 till 4:00 Room 228 , no experience needed. Come out and learn while having fun!!

·        Just a quick reminder that your Code of Behaviour forms for the Quebec Trip travellers are due this Friday in room 103. Also, the deadline for any additional travellers is this Friday September the 12th, at 2:20 p.m. Merci

·        Attention all grade 9's interested in becoming a Student Parliament grade rep, the sign-up sheet is in the main office and today is the last day to sign-up. If you are interested in becoming a grade 9 representative please sign your name on the poster in the main office. You have until 2:30pm today (Thursday)

·        “House” Youth Centre meetings for grades 10 & 12 begin tonight at 7:30 pm, doorsopen at 3 pm.  New members are always welcome.  We are located at 247 Brock St.

·        Coach Scott would like to remind the JR football team that YES we do practice in the rain. We play in the rain, we practice in the rain. Jr football practice is tonight regardless of the weather conditions unless there is lightening.

·        Golfers due to the threat of severe weather conditions, todays practice is cancelled. Be prepared to go on Monday and Tuesday of next week, Fox Glenn 3:00pm sharp. If you cannot make it please contact Mr Pascot or Mr Brunone befor then.

·        The Jr & Sr football teams are still looking for managers, trainers, photographers and students or staff to help work the concession booth during home games.   This is a great way to get your volunteer hours.  Please see Coach Scott if you're interested.

·        Student Parliament will be meeting on Thursday of this week right after school in the LCC. Bring your ideas!

·        This Friday after school, there will be an information session for the Youth Troop.  The Youth Troop is the high school branch of the Canadian Cancer society.  Its purpose is to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer society, raise cancer awareness, and to educate our fellow classmates on cancer prevention methods.  If you are interested in joining the Youth Troop, please attend the session Friday after school in the LCC.  New members are always welcome.


·        There are many community service opportunities, one is Children's Fest next weekend, Mud Puppy Gallery in A'Burg, please see Mrs. Verardi in Campus Ministry if you are interested.
