2016-17 BUDGET CONSULTATION

2016-17 BUDGET CONSULTATION

This is to advise that the Board is seeking input to its 2016-17 Budget Development through a budget survey which has been posted on the Board’s website at [ http://www.catholicboard.ca ]www.catholicboard.ca.  The survey seeks to receive input on areas where there is flexibility to make local decisions on how funds are spent.

When setting Budget priorities, the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board strives to dedicate significant resources to the realization of its primary objectives of faith development and student achievement.  Since faith development is not directly funded through Ministry of Education grants, the Board identifies efficiencies in other areas and re-directs the savings to make faith formation a priority.  Student achievement is stressed for all WECDSB children and the Board remains deeply committed to an inclusionary model of education.

Community stakeholders are encouraged to provide comments on Budget priorities using the survey provided on the website.  Survey responses received by Friday, March 4, 2016 will be summarized and presented to the Board at its meeting of March 29.  Surveys received subsequent to March 4, 2016 will be considered in the final draft Budget which is expected to be tabled with the Board of Trustees at its meeting on June~14, 2016 with final deliberation and approval on June~27, 2016.

Stakeholders may also make a presentation at a Regular Board Meeting scheduled during the Budget Consultation period, which includes the following public meeting dates:  February 23, March 29, April~26, May 24, June 14 and June 27.  Stakeholders who wish to make a presentation at a Regular Board Meeting are asked to review the guidelines and instructions for Board Delegations provided on the Board’s webpage at:  [ http://www.wecdsb.on.ca/board-meetings.html ]http://www.wecdsb.on.ca/board-meetings.html.

·        WE MADE THE PLAYOFFS! !!! For a team that has never swept together ; you captured the spectators attention with your quickly moving brooms. For a team that had little to no ice time experience ; you knew exactly how to throw your rocks! Best of luck Nicholas Unis, Brandon Bernardon, coral root, Matteao Desando , Dylan Bernardon and Jacob Ruthven.

·        Lastnight the Jr. boys played cross town rival Sandwich. The boys started the game quickly and jumped out to a 10 point lead in the first quarter. Great effort girls. Wish them luck as they finish the season tonight against Essex.

·        please release the curling team at 2 today for their last season game in Kingsville . Best of luck team

·        Over the weekend the sr girls volleyball team travelled to Chatham to play in the UCC tournament.  We came out on top of our pool in round robin play, which meant that we crossed over to play General Amherst and Saunders in the Championship pool.  After losing a close match to Saunders (24-26, 16-25) we were victorious over General Amherst (25-21, 25-22).   That brought us to the semi finals where we had a disappointing showing against Essex and lost 18-25, 18-25.  The Sr girls team would like to thank Meaghan Trotter for helping us out with her awesome setting and defensive skills.  Tonight the team faces Essex again and hopefully we will have a better outcome.  Come out tonight  at 5:30 and watch the sr girls play their last league game at home.

·        Last night the sr girls volleyball team continued their winning streak by defeating St. Joe's 3 sets to 0 by the scores of 25-19, 25-18, 25-16.  Offensively our setter, Madison Trotter, distributed the ball extremely well and found Sarah Altenhof and Gina Peters who were in the groove with 9 kills each.  Not only was Sarah Altenhof dangerous at the net, but she made some extremely good defensive passes which helped out our offensive run.  Gina Peters was also very effective at the serving line with 7 serving aces for the match.  The whole team gets their "atta girls" for coming together and playing solid volleyball. Congratulations on holding 2nd place with a 22 and 5 record.

·        Last night the Sr girls volleyball team defeated the Massey Mustangs 2 sets to 1 by the scores of 18-25, 25-20, 25-18.  After losing the first set, the sr Wildcats came out strong and determined to be victorious.  Making sure that was going to happen was Madison Trotter who served extremely well and distributed the ball to all of our hitters.  Coming up big, again, was Madison Laramie who had 10 kills for the match.  Gina Peters also scored key  points both on her serve and on her consistent hits out of middle and right side.  Defensively, Natalie Liolli dug up some strong attacks from the big Mustang hitters.  Congratulations to all of the Sr Wildcat squad, looks like we're still holding on to second place with 19 wins and 5 losses.

·        Last night the Junior Girls struggled against the Mustangs of Massey losing the match 2 sets to 1. Excellent play by the bench led to the victory in game 3. Watch out starters some players are coming after your spots.

·        For the first time in school history, the boys' hockey team faced Tecumseh Vista.  In a nail-biter, the boys hung on for the 8-1 win.  Goal-scorers were:  Jake Rosa, Quinn Fazekas, Jake Menard, Ernie Godden and Tyler Jamieson with two, and grade nine Jake Cruikshank with his first Villanova goal.

·        Last night the Jr. Boys basketball improved to 4 and 4 this season with a 65-21 win over the Leamington Lions. The boys were led offensively by Colton Vetor who had 13 in the first half. A strong game defensively was played all. Special mention goes to Brett MacDougall and Ben Diab. The boys head to Massey this afternoon for the annual Mustang Classic. Wish them luck.

·        A stellar performance by Kristen Swiatoschik was wasted as the Villy ladies hockey team dropped their first decision in 20 games, 1-0 to St. Anne’s.  Swiatoschik was particularly outstanding  in the early stages of the game keeping the ‘Wildcats in the game until they could rebound and mount an offensive.  Next up for the Ladies is the Heritage classic Tuesday night at Lansberry Park versus Holy Names.

Villanova Featured by NFL Films

NFL Films Releases Villanova's Segment in Upcoming Super Bowl 50 Special

Villanova's Luke Willson, Seattle Seahawks #82, holds up the Canadian flag, with his mom in the background, after winning Super Bowl 48

On November 6, 2015, Luke Willson revisited his alma mater, St. Thomas of Villanova, to donate the Golden Football he received as one of over 3,000 recipients who have participated in the previous 49 Super Bowls.  It is part of a program called The NFL High School Honour Roll where all past and future Super Bowl participants will receive a Golden Football to give to their high schools commemorating that school's dedication to football and character building.

Over 3,000 Golden Footballs went out to 2,000 high schools.  Twenty footballs went outside of the United States, 15 of which came to Canada.  Of those 2,000 high schools, only 17 were selected by NFL Films to be featured in an hour-long special which will air on CBS the morning of Super Bowl Sunday.  Luke Willson and St. Thomas of Villanova will be one of them.

·        Last night the sr girls volleyball team took it on the chin and lost 3 sets to 0 to Holy Names., The scores were 16-25, 16-25, and 19-25.  Nothing good can be said about our level of play, nor can anything be said about trying our best.  We just lost, not to a better team, but by giving up on ourselves.

·        If you happen to see a Villanova Curler, congratulate them on a very exciting 'B' league season. Our very own Wildcats were the "Team to watch out for" according to the many parents, coaches and specators that attended each game.   Although our teams did not make it to the final playoffs, we did place in a close 5th overall.  Not too bad for a team that never played as a team before or knew they had talent.  Not too bad for a team that went toe-to-toe against teams that have played together for years and yet were challenged and afraid of Villanova's very own.   Great season curlers.  'A' league begins in Jan and our Bonspiel is Wed
