The Annual Athletic Banquet is scheduled for Tuesday June 14th at the Fogolar Furlan Club.  Tickets will be available the 1st week of June. Looking forward to seeing all of this year's athletes for our final celebration of the year. For further information please see Ms McMahon in the phys ed office.

·       Prom Contracts are now available in the main office. You must have your signed contract and guest pass - if needed - before you can purchase a ticket. You also must have completed your 40 hours of community service and have no outstanding activity fees. Prom tickets are in sale again today and Friday during both lunches in the atrium. The last day to purchase tickets is Friday, May 27th. Tickets are $70.00.

The Jr. Girls soccer season came to an end yesterday in a hard fought overtime loss to Holy Names. Christina Liburdi and Sarah Hearn were the goal scorers, and Megan Gervais put in her usual outstanding effort to lead the team in what turned out to be an excellent season. The girls are asked to please bring in their uniforms to Mr. Corazza as soon as possible.

 

The junior boy’s soccer team lost yesterday in semi-finals versus holy names by a score of 2-1.  We wish all the grade 10's good luck and hope all the grade 9's will be back again to try out next season.  All players are reminded to pick up their athletic banquet tickets when the announcement is made and hope you can attend on June 14th. 

 

There is a choir rehearsal Tuesday after school until 4pm to prepare for the graduation mass.

 

There is a concert band rehearsal this Thursday after school until 4pm to prepare for the graduation ceremony.

 

Attention grade 9, 10 and 11 students, all students who are interested and eligible in running for next year's Student Council, must sign up in the main office by Friday, May 27th.

·       Potential Graduates. We have posted the graduation composite on the glass in the main office.  We ask that all potential graduates verify that their name is spelled correctly, that the name and face are matched correctly and that if names are to be added or removed from the composite that the office staff is informed immediately.  Students will have until 2:15 on Tuesday, May 24th to complete this.  Changes after this date will not be possible.  Only those students who have had their graduation photograph taken by Lifetouch Studios by the deadline will have their photograph on the graduation composite.

 

·       Miracle league of Amherstburg is looking for volunteers. This is a baseball league for persons with special needs. As a volunteer you would be a buddy to help players on the field. They play two 8 week seasons in the spring and fall. It is every Saturday from 10-4 at the small baseball diamond near the Libro centre in Amherstburg. Check the website or face book page or find student Joshua Damico. Thanks.

·       The girl’s softball team continued their impressive play with a 9-3 victory over Kingsville. Great defense and solid hitting was the key to success in their win. The girls are first in their division with a perfect 8-0 record! Keep up the hard work!!

·       Over the past 2 days, members of Villanova's track and field team have been competing at the SWOSSAA Track and Field Championships, competing for an opportunity to advance on to OFSAA. We now have a total of 15 athletes competing in 17 individual events and 2 relays.Shaun Acrey was our 1st qualifier, finishing 4th overall in the Steeplechase event. Mandy Brunet was a triple qualifier in the long jump, triple jump and 80 meter hurdles events. Tatiana Kincinic was a double qualifier in both her short distance and middle distance hurdle events.Sam Crispo and Chloe Gignac were also double qualifiers both in the 100 meter and 200m sprints. Other indivual qualifiers were Aryana Cirino, in the 200m;  Chantal Kelly in the Javelin, Brooke Meloche in the 100m, Justin Susko in the 3000m, and Connor Sloan in the 800m. Our midget Boys relay team of Frank Guarasci, Joe Deluca, Matt Burrows and Kodi McCrate and Junior Girls team of Tatiana, Chloe, Mandy and Jalyn Cirino also both move on to next week’s OFSAA regional’s meet in Cambridge. Congratulations to all qualifiers and to all those who competed!! There is practice tonight for both relay teams.

 

·       The Jr. Girls soccer team won their quarterfinal game vs. Tecumseh Vista yesterday. Goal scorers were Megan Gervais, Christina Liburdi, and Sarah Hearn. The semi finals will take place on our home field on Tuesday.

·       Your Villanova Wildcats' boy’s baseball team won their semi-final game yesterday to put them in the WECSSAA championship game this afternoon. The boys beat up on St. Annes winning 8-0. Tyler Jamieson was the steady force he has been all season, going six and a third innings of shutout ball. Owen Gagnon closed it out, getting the Saints1-2-3 in the seventh inning. Demitri Bertoni was the big bat driving in 3 runs and scoring two. Today's game is at Cullen Filed in MicMac Park at 3:00. Come on out and support the boys.  Go Wildcats!

·       This is a reminder to those students writing the University of Waterloo's grade 11 Avogadro Chemistry Exam with Mr. Carosella. Please be in room 224 at the beginning of period 2 on Thursday, May 19 with the necessary materials needed to write the exam.

·       At yesterday's SWOSSAA tennis tournament, Sara Casoni gave a great effort in girls' singles but was knocked out early in the tournament by an eventual top 3 finisher. Natalia Glaz, last year's girls' singles SWOSSAA champion, repeated history with a near flawless performance to once again capture the gold medal at SWOSSAA. Congratulations Natalia and good luck at OFSAA on May 30.

·       Today in the Nova Villa Cafe we are offering Ham and Scalloped Potatoes with Corn, Jumbo Chicken Burgers with Baked Flavor Crisp fries, Jumbo Slice pizza and Garden Salad, and for those who are totally oblivious and unaware that the foods course sells food, we are located in room 107 and the food is all made from fresh ingredients daily including our pizza prepared by students, and the food value is great.

·       ThIs is a reminder that the Essex Rotary Club is looking for volunteers to help out at Windsor's Art in the Park at Willistead Park.  The dates are the first weekend in June - Saturday, June 4 and Sunday, June 5.  All volunteers will be provided with lunch or supper and free entry into the event.  Shifts are 5 hours in length.  The sign-up sheets and further details regarding proper attire and location will be on the Prep 2 door or just outside Mrs. Hyland's class on the Room 236 door.  See Mrs. Hyland if you have any questions.

 

·       This is a reminder to those students writing the University of Waterloo's grade 11 Avogadro Chemistry Exam with Mr. Carosella. Please be in room 224 at the beginning of period 2 on Thursday, May 19 with the necessary materials needed to write the exam.

 

·       The Junior boys soccer team finished the regular season with an overall record of  6 wins  2 ties and no losses which was good enough for second place among 15 teams.  Yesterday’s tournament results were (3-0 victory over St Joes, 1-0 victory over L'Essor , 0-0 tie with Massey, 1-1 ties with St Annes).  The team has only conceded 1 goal in 8 games and scored 16 but will need to improve offensive output in the playoffs. We will now advance to the quarterfinals.  Practice on Wednesday at 4pm

 

·       The boy’s baseball team won 2 games and lost one in the first day of the WECSSAA tournament. In the first game they beat Harrow 12 to 1. The scored enough runs to win the second game against Sandwich, but the ball was flying out of park leaving the Wildcats on the losing end of a 19 to 8 score. The third game of the day featured an outstanding pitching performance by Brendan Renaud as the boys beat General Amherst 3 to 1. They are now in the semi finals and play a must-win game against St. Anne’s today. Go get them Widcats!!!

 

  • Those students who have signed up for the blood drive should have received a pass from their homeroom teacher.  Those students on spare will find their pass in the attendance office.  Please bring your photo ID when you come to donate.  If you are at least 17 years old and wish to sign up for the OneMatch program ask your teacher's permission to go to the gym.  You do not need a pass to sign up for the OneMatch program.

·       Do you like free cookies and juice? Would you rather give your blood to people in need than to mosquitoes? Would you like to help save up to three lives? If you have answered yes to any of these questions and are 17 or older, please consider donating blood here at Villanova’s blood clinic on Tuesday May 17th. Signup in the Learning Commons for appointment times. Please also consider stopping by our Onematch bone marrow registry event which is also happening on May 17th. You do not need to donate blood to sign up, just stop by on Tuesday. Please see Ms. Russo or Mr. Roehler if you have any questions.


·       The Villanova Sr. Girls Soccer team did us proud yesterday with a resounding 3-0 win over Holy Names in the WECSSAA semi-final game. Goal scorers were Savannah Marra, Jalyn Cirino, and Marissa Baldo. Breanna Vasko was stellar in net with the shutout. We have now secured a berth in the WECSSAA Championship game against St. Anne's at 4 o'clock this Tuesday at McHugh Park in Windsor. Due to league restructuring, this will mark the first time that Villanova will have to get through two former quads A teams to earn a league title. History could be made on Tuesday, so please come out and cheer for your Wilcats.

·       The boy’s baseball team secured the number 3 seed in their division tonight with a convincing win over Massey, 10-2. Brendan Renaud and Owen Gagnon had great pitching performances. The offense was lead by Lucas DiLuca who had 4 rbi. The will now prepare for the WECSSAA tournament which begins this coming Monday. Play hard boys!

·       OPA! That's a word used during Greek celebrations, and today in the Nova Villa Cafe we are offering Pita's with Greek Salad, Penne with Blush Sauce and our Jumbo Homemade Pizza Slice. Get there fast if you want a Pita.

 

·       The girls softball team battled the weather and a formidable opponent in Sandwich S.S yesterday. The girls fought hard and kept their perfect record intact with a 9-2 victory. They continue league play tomorrow at St. Anne's. Good luck girls!!

·       If anyone is interested in helping at Zehrs' for celebrity bagging event, please show up at Zehrs in Lasalle, anywhere from 10-6 or Sunday 10-2, even if it is to show school spirit. Let's show Vily spirit and thanks.

·       Mr. Hamelin's period three class is reminded that they are taking 2nd lunch today so they are to report to class right after 2nd period.

·       The boy’s baseball team had enough pitching to win a ball game yesterday with Tyler Jamieson and Cole Lepine giving up only one hit and combining to strike out 10 batters. Unfortunately, they were unable to get the bats going against Kingsville, losing 3-0. The boys have an early release time of 11:45 today for the buyout game which will start at 1:05. Teachers, if your class is attending, please take attendance and collect any money as quickly as possible and come on out to the ball park!!

·       The senior boy’s soccer team has advanced to the semifinals with a 2-1 victory against the Massey Mustangs. Goals scored by Joel Sands and Chris Spadafora both assisted by Avery Grondin. Man of the match Anfo Pedri for his great play in net.

·       Would those students who are writing the Grade 11 Avogadro Chemistry Exam please see Mr. Carosella in room 225 or the science office, sometime today, for some important information.



·       Have you ever wondered what your blood type is?  Now is your chance to find out.  Canadian Blood Services will be here today, Thursday May 5th in the LCC during 3rd period to type your blood.  If you are 17 years old or older you can stop by on lunch and find out your blood type.

 

·       Three year old Mason Macri sits in a Houston hospital recovering from a twelve hour surgery this past weekend in a fight against a rare form of cancer.  The costs to save this young boy’s life are expected to approach a million dollars.  The Villanova girl’s hockey team will unite with the Amherst team and play a charity exhibition game to raise monies in the “Battle for Mason” tonight night at 7:00pm at the Amherstburg arena.  Admission to the game is free but there will be donations and a 50 / 50 raffle with 100% of the proceeds going to help little Mason.  Donate one cup of coffee from this week, a tooney, and make a difference.  If you can’t make the game, please see Mrs. Curran and donate what you can.  Help save this little boy’s life.

 

·       A reminder to the boy’s baseball team that they are to report to period 4 for attendance before their release for their game in Kingsville.

 

·       This Sat. at Zehrs in LaSalle they are looking for student volunteers to help bag for donations and need students with school spirit. It is from 10-6, and Sunday 10-2. Thanks.

 

·       Junior Boys Soccer practice tonight from 4-5:30pm

 

  • The Villanova Jr. Girls soccer team was outstanding in yesterday's opening round of WECSSAA league games. We won all three of our games by defeating L'Essor 4-1, Tecumseh Vista 3-1, and a strong Holy Names squad by a score of 2-1 in what proved to be a great game.  Goal scorers were Bianca Ciampa, Megan Gervais, Emily VanRijt, Noelle Lefrancois, and Brook Meloche with two, and three goals by Christina Liburdi. League play continues this Friday at the Vollmer soccer fields.

 

  • Due to field conditions the Sr. Girls soccer practice for tonight has been cancelled. Practices will now be on Monday and Tuesday of next week after school.

 

·       And today's lunch specials in the Nova Villa Cafe are:  Philly Cheese and Beef Sandwich with Coleslaw and Baked Beans or Fries, Grilled Veggie Panini with Fries or Salad, Jumbo Homemade Pizza and Penne with Sausage and Blush Sauce...and we will be selling pizza after school today.
